Stilgar
Naib of Sietch Tabr and a fiercely loyal Fremen leader.
Stilgar ruled Sietch Tabr as Naib, and he took Paul and Lady Jessica in after they fled into the desert with House Atreides in ruins behind them. He doubted the off-worlders at first, but Paul's growing mastery of Fremen ways wore that doubt down fast. Custom said Paul would have to kill him to take the tribe, and Paul refused, finding a way to lead without spilling the water of a friend. That refusal bound Stilgar to him harder than any duel would have. His pragmatism and his command of the desert made him the sharpest weapon the Fremen had against the Harkonnens, and he lent the cause his own authority and the trust of his people. Fremen tradition pulled at him from one side, and the religious fervor rising around Muad'Dib pulled from the other. Through all of it, Stilgar stayed one of the steadiest, most loyal men in the entire Atreides story.
