Staban Tuek
The smuggler chief who took Gurney Halleck in after House Atreides fell.
Esmar Tuek built the operation. Staban inherited it, along with the hidden bases scattered through the deep desert and the bribes that kept Guild satellites pointed somewhere else. The trade ran on illicitly harvested spice, lifted off Arrakis without the Emperor's cut or CHOAM's. Every power on the planet knew it went on. Most took a share and said nothing. Gurney Halleck reached one of Staban's camps with a handful of surviving men after Arrakeen fell, and asked for work. Staban gave it to him. For roughly two years Gurney raided Harkonnen spice operations out of Tuek shelters, waging a private war against the House that had destroyed the one he served. The arrangement suited them both. Staban got a raider who understood Harkonnen methods from the inside. Gurney got a base, a crew, and a reason to keep going. It ended when Fremen fighters ambushed the band far out in the sand. Their commander turned out to be Paul Atreides, and Gurney found the boy he had trained grown, alive, and leading an army.
