Esmar Tuek
The smuggler who built the Tuek trade on Arrakis and passed it to his son.
Esmar Tuek spent decades lifting spice off Arrakis without paying the Emperor or CHOAM a solari for the privilege. He grew the family trade from nothing into a network of shelters buried in the deep desert, far past the reach of Imperial inspectors and Harkonnen patrols. The work asked for more than nerve. It took bribes paid to the right Guild officials, enough that their satellites found nothing worth reporting. It took a reading of the sand sharp enough to keep a crew alive out where the worms ran. The Landsraad never recognized House Tuek as a House at all. Esmar appeared content with that. Recognition brought obligations, taxes, and scrutiny, none of it much use to a man in his line of work. He passed the operation to his son Staban, along with the contacts and the hiding places that would later shelter Gurney Halleck through two years of raiding. Nothing the Tueks built ever reached an official record. It shaped the balance of power on Arrakis all the same.
