Dr. Wellington Yueh was a Suk-trained physician, bound by Imperial Conditioning that should have made betrayal neurologically impossible. He served House Atreides with apparent unwavering loyalty. Then Baron Harkonnen found the one lever that could break him: the kidnapping and torture of his beloved wife, Wanna. Faced with an impossible choice, Yueh disabled Castle Arrakeen's shields at the critical moment of the Harkonnen-Sardaukar assault. He delivered Duke Leto into his enemies' hands even as guilt and grief consumed him. His betrayal was never absolute. He secretly gave Leto a poisoned false tooth to kill Baron Harkonnen in a final act of vengeance, and he arranged Paul and Jessica's escape into the desert. His act shattered the Imperium's faith in Suk conditioning. It proved that even the most sacred, supposedly unbreakable safeguard could fail when the right pressure reached a person's deepest loves.
