Piter De Vries was a twisted Mentat whose formidable mind served House Harkonnen's darkest schemes. He engineered the intricate manipulation that broke Dr. Wellington Yueh's supposedly unbreakable Suk Conditioning. He turned one of the Imperium's most trusted physicians into the instrument of House Atreides' destruction. Most Mentats trained toward dispassionate logic in service of legitimate rule. De Vries reveled openly in cruelty instead, using his gifts to feed both the Baron's ambitions and his own taste for suffering. His plotting nearly delivered House Atreides intact into Harkonnen hands. His role in the conspiracy ended in Duke Leto's final act of defiance. Leto killed De Vries along with Baron Harkonnen's intended victims, using the poison gas concealed in his false tooth. De Vries stood as a dark mirror to Mentats like Thufir Hawat. The same discipline that produced loyal, brilliant advisors could just as easily be turned toward betrayal and cruelty.
