Swordmaster of the Ginaz and fiercely loyal retainer to House Atreides.
Duncan Idaho trained as a Swordmaster at the legendary academy on Ginaz and gave House Atreides the whole of that skill. Duke Leto trusted him enough to send him to the Fremen as an envoy, and he came back with something no Atreides agent had managed: their respect. Stilgar spoke his name with regard, which counted for more on Arrakis than any treaty did. He taught Paul the blade alongside Gurney Halleck and Thufir Hawat, and the boy grew up counting him a friend rather than a retainer. When the Harkonnens took Arrakeen and Sardaukar ran Paul and Lady Jessica to ground in the desert, Duncan held the door and bought them the minutes they needed. He did not walk away from it.
