Glossu Rabban
Known as 'Beast Rabban', the tyrannical nephew of the Baron.
Arrakis knew Glossu Rabban as 'Beast Rabban' for his casual brutality. His uncle Baron Harkonnen put him in charge of the planet on purpose. The instructions were to squeeze every possible resource from the population and instill deep, lasting hatred of Harkonnen rule at the same time. That cruelty served a longer-term plan. It prepared the ground for Feyd-Rautha to arrive later as an apparent liberator, his restraint made to look like mercy against the backdrop of Rabban's excesses. Rabban's heavy hand only deepened Fremen resentment and resistance. He strengthened the very insurgency that would later topple Harkonnen control of Arrakis entirely. Fremen fighters killed him during Paul's desert campaign. It was a fittingly violent end for a man whose whole governorship had been built on violence against the people he ruled.
